CA!CC!    JAVA JAM-OUTDOOR STAGE

Saturday, September 18. 2010

9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  7 hours

In case of rain events will be held at Kennedy Elementary, 7th St SW. Info on KWLM 1340 after 7am

9:15 – 9:45 Paul Imholte, String Musician

If it has strings, Paul Imholte probably plays it.  Paul performs traditional and original music on nearly a dozen string instruments. Raised in central Minnesota, his music portrays both historical American themes and contemporary Midwestern life.  Paul performs throughout the United States at festivals, schools and concerts.  He has released seven CDs of his music.  His artistry is based on his love for acoustical string instruments and sharing that passion with audiences.

Featured in every performance is Paul’s hammered dulcimer.  The hammered dulcimer is a trapezoid-shaped instrument that is played by striking strings with light hammers.  Originally from the Middle East, this type of dulcimer helped to create the modern piano.   Along with the dulcimer, Paul sings and plays the fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, viola, cello, autoharp, mountain dulcimer, harmonica, and jaw harp.

10:00 – 3:00 p.m. Paul will stroll the grounds with his cart full of string instruments during our downtown art celebration.

10:00- 10:50  The Fringe Band

The members of the Fringe Band (Aane Twedt - Willmar, Doug Hoogeveen - Atwater, Jim Dyer and Rick Pederson - Spicer) have been dabbling around the edges of bluegrass, old time, blues, rock and folk music for many years.  They play a rich variety of music with unique harmonies while interpreting other artist's music in their own style.

11:00 – 11:25  Wild Goose Chase Cloggers

The Wild Goose Chase Cloggers includes six male and seven female dancers and three musicians. Clogging is an American style of dance that, like so many American folk styles, has its roots in the Appalachian region of the south. Clogging itself comes from three separate traditions. The type of foot movements derive from early African-American buck dancing, or flat-footing, which featured percussion created by foot movements and hand and body slapping. The other components of clogging are English step dancing, and Native American dance, particularly from the Cherokee. Performances include choreographed dances based on square-dance formations, modern a cappella pieces and other types of percussive dance including French Canadian step-dancing and English waltz clogging.
